The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
I went into this movie knowing that it would be directed mainly towards young girls, but upon seeing it, I can only think that the director was playing the movie's plot down to them.
I admit, I have read the book this movie was based on, and once more, I admit that I actually thought it was pretty good. But seeing the film and knowing what it could have been...it doesn't take a leap of any sort to know that the director was copping out.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants had all the right things going for it — a following of the books, a good story line, and a great moral, but what it lacked could not be listed so succinctly.
Music, which is always important in setting the right mood in any movie, was sorely matched to the scenes, while the script adaption was poor and limited. America Ferrera was one of the best things this movie had going for it, taking in all of her character's emotions and traits and making them believable, but sadly she wasn't able to carry her cast mates in the same fashion.
I'm not completely condemning this film — it's good if you don't want to think and need to keep your little sister quiet for a couple of hours, but if you have a choice to see this or The Babysitter's Club? Choose The Babysitter's Club.
