Perdita Durango
Rosie Perez (White Men Can’t Jump, Do the Right Thing) plays Perdita Durango: a dangerous, attractive and out of control girl of 23 years. Durango grew up through a rough adolescence and plays hard, too hard for most. This is until she meets Romeo Dolorosa, played by Javier Bardem (Jamon, Jamon, El detective y la Muerte). Romeo is a dangerous felon who is wanted in Texas for various crimes, and is being pursued by FBI agent Woody Dumas (James Gandolfini).
Soon after they meet, Romeo is contracted to transport a truck full of foetuses to Las Vegas for a Mafia boss. After this they kidnap a well-bred teenage couple, played by Aimee Graham (From Dusk Til Dawn) and Harley Cross (The Believers), who join them on this journey. Screaming Jay Hawkins also makes an appearance as Romeo’s friend “Adolfo”.
This modern day Bonnie and Clyde is touted as a “… an explosive cocktail of humour, love, sex, and action”. The movie was nothing special with a severe affliction of formula from the recent movies of the genre. It was enjoyable in places, indeed I caught myself chuckling, but it is still the same old story. I found it amusing but, as I have said, nothing too special. Rating: 2 stars out of 5.
