Knocked Up
Starring: Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl (Gray's Anatomy)
From the Director of 'The 40 year old Virgin'
Alison is a diligent worker for a major T.V. station, who has just been promoted to doing on camera work. Ben is a beer drinking stoner who is working on a website with his friends that lists the times and duration of scenes where actress take their tops off. After meeting Lisa at a bar one night they have what is supposed to be a one night stand, except with consequences 9 months later that will change both their lives… (she gets pregnant.)
Knocked Up is a hilarious film that will undoubtedly appeal to any audience. Unlike some romantic comedies that are not co-written by members of both sexes, Knocked Up does portray both sexes convincingly enough to relate to audiences of mixed genders. One criticism of the film is that whilst it does — admittedly successfully — try to appeal to audiences of all ages, at times this tends to strain the humour, leading to scenes that members may of both age groups may find beyond their appreciation. In fact it could be said that as the characters “grow” from young adults to adults, so too does the film's humour “grow” and change. It even seems that by the end of the film you're walking out of a different film to what you started watching due to this fact. This isn't to say that the teenagers won't be laughing by the end of the film, nor that parents won't be laughing until the baby is born. It's offers a consistently smashing comedy for all.
Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogan hold the screen well, along with supporting actors Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. A special appearance by James Franco (Spiderman 3) adds to the flavour. The film's concept is very original, but it does follow the predictable romantic comedy formula from that point forward. I doubt it will change you life, but it's a good wholesome romantic comedy that is choc-o-block full of humour. Grab the gang and kill yourself laughing.
