Dead Letter Office
Director: John Ruane.
Starring: Miranda Otto and George Delhoyo.
Dead Letter Office is a charming, funny, but at times forced, film. Alice (Miranda Otto) has spent her life writing letters to her absent father, they are always returned by the Dead Letter Office stamped “undeliverable”. Now a young woman, Alice decides to track down her father starting at the Dead Letter Office. She gets a job there and becomes involved in the little world that is the office. Her work mates are a strange and endearing group of people who provide most of the comic relief. But her main involvement is with the undeliverable letters, which she opens and reads in secret. She can relate to these people who send letters to God and lost lovers. She begins to understand her search and that of those around her and gets involved in the life of her boss, Frank (George Delhoyo), a Chilean refugee who is hiding from the memories of his past. There are parts of this film that are heartbreaking, we are looking at damaged people with loss in their lives, but ultimately it is an uplifting journey of discovery.
The Real Buzz: A heart-warming little film.
