Chaos
Starring: Wesley Snipes, Ryan Phillips, Jason Statham.
After an explosion in a bank heist, two investigators (Statham, Phillips) are paired up to investigate. As the investigation ensues, they find themselves drawn into a complicated psychological mind game by the enigmatic mastermind behind the heist.
The film itself is quite good and above average for a mainstream crime/thriller. It’s also nice to see Snipes, Phillips and Statham back in the game for another drama / action romp. However, whilst Chaos genuinely a decent film and hasn’t been done before but it isn’t exactly mind blowing with originality either. The whole film fits together well, but still has that quasi-corny element where the mind game revolves around the villain periodically mocking the investigators at each stage of the investigation using a lot of prepared speeches involving the chaos theory. While simultaneously cluing them on by practically encouraging them to look it up, and figure out his master plan, so his obscure villainy is appreciated because no one else cares! Mwuhaha!
Chaos has action, drama, a good plot, and although it’s not perfect (as very few mainstream films in this category seem to be), it’s in the higher cadre for its type
